Multimedia Home Platform (MHP)

Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) is a standard for interactive television services. It defines a middleware platform that enables the delivery of digital television services to a variety of devices, including televisions, set-top boxes, and personal computers.

MHP is based on the Java platform and uses the Object Management Group's (OMG) CORBA architecture for inter-process communication. MHP applications are written in the Java programming language and are run on top of a Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

MHP defines a set of APIs that provide access to TV-specific functions, such as video and audio playback, channel tuning, andElectronic Program Guide (EPG) information. MHP also defines a set of Java bindings for these APIs, which makes it possible to write MHP applications in a platform-independent way.

MHP applications can be downloaded and installed on MHP-compliant devices using a variety of methods, including over-the-air updates, USB storage devices, and DVD-ROMs. MHP applications can also be delivered using a broadcast-based delivery system, such as satellite or cable television.

MHP is an open standard that is managed by the Open IPTV Forum, a non-profit organization that promotes the adoption of open standards for the delivery of IPTV services.
