Itanium

Itanium is a family of 64-bit Intel microprocessors that implement the Intel Itanium architecture (formerly called IA-64). Intel marketed the processors for use in enterprise servers and high-performance computing (HPC) systems. The Itanium architecture originated at Hewlett-Packard (HP), and was later jointly developed by HP and Intel.

Itanium-based systems have been produced by HP, SGI, Fujitsu-Siemens, Bull, Dell, NEC, and Siemens Nixdorf, among others. HP stopped producing Itanium systems in September 2008.

The first Itanium processor, code-named Merced, was released in 2001.

What is Itanium used for? Itanium is a type of microprocessor that was originally designed by Intel. It is used in a variety of high-end computing applications, such as servers, workstations, and embedded systems. It is also used in some high-performance computing (HPC) applications, such as supercomputers. What happened to Intel Itanium? The Itanium processor was originally released in 2001 and was intended to be a replacement for the Pentium series of processors. However, it failed to gain traction in the market and was eventually discontinued in 2017.

Was Itanium any good?

Itanium was a microprocessor architecture developed by Intel and Hewlett-Packard. It was intended to replace the aging x86 architecture. Itanium processors were used in high-end servers and workstations.

The Itanium architecture was designed with high-performance computing in mind. It featured a large number of registers and an instruction set that was optimized for vector processing. Itanium processors were capable of impressive performance, but they were also very power-hungry and expensive.

Due to these drawbacks, Itanium never gained widespread adoption and was eventually discontinued. When was Itanium discontinued? Itanium processors were discontinued in 2019.

Is HP UX still supported?

Yes, HP-UX is still supported.

HP-UX 11i v3 was released in August of 2011, and HP-UX 11i v2 was released in September of 2006.

There is no end date for support of HP-UX 11i v2, and HP has committed to providing security patches and critical updates for HP-UX 11i v3 until at least 2025.
